Spiked Kool-Aid By Kristin Parker

Is it me? Or does every summer night in the Hamptons feel like a Friday? Wednesday, I checked out Ladies’ Night at the Southampton Publick House and it was packed! Friday, I swung by Madame Tong’s for some food and camaraderie before heading to Dune to dance it all off. Saturday night, Daisy from VH1’s “Rock of Love” made a pit stop at Porky’s in Hampton Bays. The good old Southampton Publick House never fails me. Every time I stop by, I always have a good time and see some familiar faces. The last time I went by the Publick House was when the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in a historical NFL Championship Game. Months later, the Publick House is still bringing in the crowds.
I stopped by Wednesday for Ladies’ Night to check out the drink specials and the scene. Before heading over to the bar, I sat down to have a quick bite to eat. I tried the crab cake and chicken quesadillas, both appetizers but enough for a gal in the summer. I then went over to the bar area where it seemed to get packed within minutes. DJ Paulie was on the turntables, mixing and moving the crowd. Having a conversation over the music was quite difficult but I did mange to hear Michael Wudyka say that Regulars CafĂ© would be having live music on Thursdays.
Time seems to fly by and before I knew it, it was 2 a.m. I had no chance of making my spin class at 8 a.m. then next morning. Why did a Wednesday night at the Publick House seemed more like a Friday? When Friday night finally arrived, I wondered if it could beat my Wednesday night at the Publick House. It turned out to be a tie. Madame Tong’s in Southampton has a lot of character. You can eat, dance, and have a conversation without having to strain over loud music. You can order drinks at the outside bar or inside by the DJ booth. Madame Tong’s has great sushi and I decided to order the same dish Robin Givens and I shared last summer, the dragon roll! I saw Jean Luc in the crowd and thanked him for always welcoming Life @ Nite into his venue. He mentioned that Prime 103 in East Hampton would be opening up a new lounge in the back end of the restaurant sometime this summer. I will keep you posted on the opening day. I hung out at Tong’s until 1 a.m. and then headed over to Dune to burn some calories on the dance floor.
As I arrived at Dune, the door was once again packed but luckily I saw Tamie Peters, one of the best PR gals in town, pull up with her entourage and gladly walked in with her. Tamie mentioned that Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls and her husband Stefan Belafonte would make a star appearance at Dune Saturday night for the Mokai Miami event. Dune is really pulling in the celebrities this summer! Keep it up!S
aturday night may have been a wash-out but that didn’t stop people from dancing in the rain at Porky’s in Hampton Bays. Daisy from VH1’s “Rock of Love” stopped by Saturday night to woo the crowd, take pictures, and leave her signature on a wall which I’m sure will be filled by the end of the summer. If you haven’t rolled by Porky’s, it is a must see. It reminds me of a combination of clubs from different cities I have visited. Panama City Beach, Miami, and Brooklyn, all come to mind when I walked into this anomaly of the Hamptons. Black lighting fills the back room, making pictures of pigs with wings and signs that read Welcome to the Shame of the Hamptons glow in the dark. Over in the corner DJ SoCo, who often DJs at Lily Pond, spun old school hip hop while people ordered Kool-Aid inspired shots from the inside bar. I walked outside and talked to some Porky’s regulars who seem to appreciate the toned down scene. Although Saturday was rainy, Sunday night was perfect for hanging outside Porky’s bar. I watched two couples play beer pong while sipping spiked kool-aid out of a fish bowl.
There is plenty of seating room in Porky’s but if you want a spot by the DJ booth, you will have to pay $600 for one of those tables. But don’t worry - one of the pretty ladies, Maria, Patricia, or Katie will be there for bottle service or to bring you shots of blueberry or punch Kool-Aid.
